The Livery Workshop Is Open + Charts for your Airport!

A Project Airports airframe being painted live inside the Livery Workshop
Pick an airframe. Paint it live.

It's been down for a couple weeks while I tore into the parts that made it feel heavy, slow, and stuttery. We also needed to work it into the Project Airports economy. It's finally back, and the difference is pretty massive.

Open the Livery Workshop

If the Airport Editor is the thing that lets you landscape the world, this is its equally cool sibling, but for airplanes: pick an airframe, paint directly on the real 3D aircraft, add fills, stripes, text, logos and finishes, can even upload your own logos/decals/wraps! It's easy enough to make something good quickly, and powerful enough to lose an evening getting it absolutely perfect.

Every airframe: free for everyone to paint. These are MSFS models and have to verify MSFS 2024 ownership first. 32 supported airframes from the Cessna 152 to the Beluga XL, more coming soon. 3rd party not included, need dev permissions.

If you are on the free tier, the livery you make syncs directly into your own sim. When you publish it, it also joins the PA network, which means Supporters with Sync All enabled can see it in group flights and multiplayer. Supporters get the other side of that deal: they can subscribe to individual liveries or pull the entire community library into their sim. Supporters also get 5 additional storage slots!

That's a little different from airports, where everyone gets everyone's work automatically. The boring reason is size: a PA airport is about 1.5 MB. One livery is usually 40–100 MB, and can be up to 150× more expensive for us to build, store, sync and distribute. Multiply that by a growing library and a few thousand pilots... you can see the issue.

Your airport has its own Charts now.

Airports with navaids or IFR procedures now get a proper chart section. On-field VOR/DME, DME and NDB stations show up on the public page; if one carries a procedure, or the runway has an ILS or RNAV approach, PA builds the plate automatically from the same data going into the sim - frequency, course, minimums, missed approach, holds and all. All approach data is configurable in your Airport Editor. Conflicts are prevented with real world instrument data.

This one took longer than I wanted because it needed to. Go paint something ridiculous. I have seen what you did with your airports; now show me your airplanes!
