Privacy Policy

Last updated July 1, 2026

This policy explains what Project Airports ("Project Airports", "we", "us") collects, why, and the choices you have. We try to collect as little as we can to run the service, and we never sell your personal information.

Summary

  • We collect what we need to run your account, build and sync your airports, and operate the in-world economy.
  • The optional desktop companion app tracks your flying to award Aeros and can detect a fixed list of known aviation apps you run - it never scans or reports anything else about your PC.
  • We use trusted processors (hosting, auth, maps, payments, Discord) and don't sell your data.
  • You can access, export, or delete your data at any time by emailing us.

1. Information you give us

  • Account details: your email address and, if you sign up with a password, a securely hashed password. If you use Google or Discord sign-in, we receive your basic profile (name, email, avatar, and account ID) from that provider.
  • Profile: a public display name or callsign (anonymous by default), optional avatar, region preferences, and email notification preferences.
  • Content you create: land claims, airport designs, placed objects, build jobs, and anything you submit through the app.
  • Support and community: messages you send us by email or via our Discord.

2. Information collected automatically

  • Usage and device data: basic technical information such as IP address, browser/device type, and pages or actions taken, used to operate and secure the service and understand what's working.
  • Cookies: we use strictly necessary cookies to keep you signed in and secure your session. We don't use advertising cookies.
  • In-world economy activity: flight and airport activity that earns or spends Aeros, kept as a ledger tied to your account.

3. The desktop companion app

The optional companion app installs your airports into Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and powers the passive economy. When you run it, it:

  • Links your computer to your account (a device record) so your airports sync to the right place.
  • Tracks your flights in the sim to award Aeros - things like time aloft and the airports you fly between.
  • Can, on an opt-in basis, check whether a fixed, known list of aviation apps (ATC, charts, weather, hardware utilities, etc.) is running, to raise your active income tier. It only ever looks for those specific titles; it does not inventory, upload, or otherwise report the other software or files on your computer.

You control this by choosing whether to install and run the companion app, and which of its features you enable.

4. How we use your information

  • Provide the service: create your account, build and sync airports, and run the economy.
  • Operate the community: link your Discord account (when you choose to) and grant supporter roles.
  • Process contributions: handle supporter payments and attach any perks.
  • Communicate: send account, security, and (where you've opted in) product or economy updates.
  • Improve and secure: understand usage, prevent abuse and fraud, and keep the service safe.
  • Comply with law: meet legal obligations and enforce our Terms.

5. Legal bases (EEA/UK users)

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we process personal data on these bases: performance of a contract (running your account and the service), legitimate interests (securing, improving, and supporting the service), consent (optional features and marketing emails, which you can withdraw at any time), and legal obligation (record-keeping and compliance).

6. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who process it on our behalf, under contract, to run the service:

  • Hosting & infrastructure (application and website hosting).
  • Database, authentication & storage (your account, content, and files).
  • Map data providers (the satellite/base maps in the builder).
  • Payment processors, such as Stripe and PayPal, when you contribute (we never see or store full card numbers).
  • Discord, when you link your account, to grant and reconcile community roles.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to enforce our Terms, to protect rights and safety, or as part of a business transfer. Content you choose to make public (such as a published airport or public callsign) is visible to others by design.

7. Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service, then delete or anonymize it within a reasonable period, except where we must retain it for legal, accounting, or security reasons (for example, payment records).

8. Your rights and choices

  • Access, correct, export, or delete your personal data.
  • Withdraw consent for optional features or unsubscribe from non-essential emails at any time.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing, where the law provides that right.
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

If you are in California, you have rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including to know, delete, and correct your information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising them. Because we do not sell or "share" personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, there is nothing to opt out of on that front.

To exercise any of these, email info@projectairports.com or reach us via the contact page. We may need to verify your identity first.

9. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures - encryption in transit, hashed passwords, access controls, and row-level security on our database - to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security, but we work hard to protect your data and to respond quickly if something goes wrong.

10. International transfers

Project Airports and our providers may process your information in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) for these transfers.

11. Children

Project Airportsis not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we don't knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we'll delete it.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service evolves. When we make material changes, we'll update the date above and, where appropriate, give additional notice. Continuing to use Project Airports after an update means you accept the revised policy.
