Oberwil-Lieli LSOL

Tucked into the quiet farmland of the Bünztal, Oberwil-Lieli Airfield is one of the smallest registered airstrips in Aargau. Built in 1968 by local flying enthusiasts, it has stayed deliberately modest ever since — a single gravel runway, a small office building, one fuel pump, and a hangar just big enough for a couple of light aircraft. Runway 04/22 sits at 1,757 ft elevation, heading 220°. Just 600 m long and 23 m wide, its gravel surface demands a bit more respect than tarmac — short and rough enough to keep the field firmly in the realm of light singles and ultralights, nothing needing more than a Cessna 172. The office doubles as an operations hut and meeting point — file a flight plan, grab a coffee, check the windsock. No tower, no navaids, just a single fuel pump and pilots relying on local knowledge and the church spire of Oberwil village as an informal landmark on final. LSOL isn't a destination so much as a launchpad. Most who fly here are locals using the field to explore the Aargau countryside: low, scenic hops along the Bünz and Reuss valleys, over patchwork farmland, with the Alps visible on clear days. The same few aircraft sit outside the hangar week after week. Weekdays are quiet, sometimes without a single takeoff — but fair-weather weekends bring the buzz of small engines, pilots making the most of a short, rough runway and a big sky.
