The story of Blackpool North Airport

Welcome to Blackpool North Airport (EGZJ), where rich aviation heritage meets the dynamic pace of modern virtual flight. Perched along the breezy Lancashire coastline just north of Blackpool’s famous seaside promenade, this field serves as a versatile regional hub catering to general aviation, charter operations, business jets, and regional scheduled hops across the British Isles and beyond. A Storied Heritage Originally established as a World War airfield, Blackpool North played a pivotal role in coastal patrols and tactical flight training. While the main runways and avionics have been upgraded to support contemporary traffic, the airfield’s past remains proudly on display. The original wartime control tower and adjacent brick-and-blister hangars have been carefully preserved. Today, this historic apron houses the Blackpool North Aviation Heritage Centre—a boutique museum curating wartime artifacts, engine relics, and vintage airframes. Adjacent to the old watch tower sits the airfield’s dedicated Plane Spotting Enclosure, offering enthusiasts unobstructed, panoramic views of active taxiways, runway action, and Irish Sea approaches. Airfield Features & Operations Runway Infrastructure: Equipped with an extended asphalt main runway featuring full lighting and modern instrument approaches, accommodating everything from light single-engine trainers to mid-sized regional turboprops and private charters. Modern Amenities: Full-service FBO facilities, apron tie-downs, avgas/Jet-A1 fueling services, and a pilot lounge overlooking the historical museum grounds. Vibrant GA Community: An active home for flight training, coastal VFR cross-country tours, and scenic flights past the Blackpool Tower. Whether you are tracing historic flight corridors in a vintage taildragger or piloting a charter executive jet through coastal squalls, Blackpool North Airport delivers character, history, and seamless operations for every pilot on Project Airports.

You can adjust the boundaries of the green base area to make it fit into the landscape -a lot of people don't seem to realise thatn and you see lots of amorphous rectangular blobs just plonked in the countryside which looks bad. You can also adjust height settings of the runway and base to make it fit the landscape better.
