The story of Burner Field
Burner Field, on the western edge of Corcoran, California-- in the fertile Central Valley-- serves as a gateway to the southern Sierras for private and regional commercial aircraft alike. Water bombers fly in here, using the flooded land to the west (Lake Tulare), to scoop up water, to fight wildfires in the mountains to the east. The lake is more of a flood plain that was dry for years, but was recently re-flooded with the strong rains in 2023. Enjoy this airport, but do pay attention to the fence that clips the south-east corner of the runway, and the cherry trees all around.
