The story of Cmdr's Catalina Air Club
A secret United States Army Air Corp reconnaissance and signals intercept base before the Second World War, it was abandoned in the early 1950s. Discovered by Cmdr McSlash, hiking the Island after a sailboat race in 1991, he quickly put together a team to procure financing to aquire the rights to the land. Leased for 99 years (renewable) from the Catalina Island Conservancy in 2000, development began soon after. The Air Club features hiking, swimming, off roading, cabins, tiki huts, camping and more.
Accessible only by aircraft, to members of Project Airports.
