Its runway is designed to welcome everything from bush aircraft and general aviation to turboprops and private jets. Taxiways, ramps, hangars, lighting, fuel facilities, and modern infrastructure will transform the field into a capable regional aviation hub without losing the wilderness that makes Katahdin special. But KMTK is meant to become more than pavement and hangars. The long-term vision is a gateway into Maine's Wild North — supporting charter flights, sightseeing operations, helicopters, cargo, backcountry aviation, and pilots arriving from across the Project Airports network.
