The story of Folsom Point

Tucked onto the oak-dappled spit of Dotons Point, Folsom Point Airfield (Elevation 482 ft) is a sleepy, picturesque outpost on the shores of Folsom Lake. Born as a quiet weekend getaway strip in the late 1960s, 0FP remains a cozy refuge for aviators looking to escape busy class C airspace, practice gentle touch-and-gos over calm water, or simply watch the morning mist lift off the lake. It’s an intimate, low-key field where the local wildlife holds absolute right-of-way, the lake serves as your downwind leg, and the shade under the blue oaks doubles as the transient parking apron. Field Briefing & Pilot Notes Field Elevation: 498' MSL Runways: 16 / 34 Traffic Pattern Altitude (TPA): 1,282' MSL (800' AGL) Pattern Flow: Right Traffic for Runway 34 (keeps turns out over open water and clear of the shoreline bluffs). Standard Left Traffic for Runway 16. Preferred Runway: 34 (favored for the gentle afternoon breeze coming off the lake basin). Keep an eye out for boat wake shimmer on low final approach to Runway 34. Resident deer occasionally like to sunbathe near the threshold of 16—give the engine a quick throttle burst on crosswind to clear the area.

Beautiful little airport, nice spot close to the water. Approach to 16 requires careful energy management due to hills on the approach. Wonder if you can hire the caravan for the night! Scenic short flight from Auburn Municipal (KAUN) down the North Fork river valley.

I know the lake. Went to High School in Placerville. I been to this point many times to boat and swim etc.. I seen float planes in the lake but there is not an immediate airpark close. Good job here. I like the location of course and the strip is cool to use.
