Located in Wisconsin, it was developed to bring fighter operations, aerial refueling, combat readiness training, and Army support together at one strategically placed airfield. From its founding, Viper Airfield was designed to support both day-to-day military missions and rapid responses to changing operational needs. The 115th Fighter Wing and 128th Air Refueling Wing became the airfield’s principal flying units, providing fighter and tanker capabilities for regional training and broader Air Force operations. Viper Field Combat Readiness Training Center expanded the installation’s role by hosting realistic exercises for aircrews and support personnel. These activities helped establish Viper as a center for joint training, where units could practice coordinating air and ground missions. The 32nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team brought a substantial Army presence to Viper Airfield, strengthening the partnership between the services. Over time, the base grew into a shared home for flying units, training organizations, and ground forces. Today, Viper Airfield’s mission reflects the purpose behind its founding: to prepare Air Force and Army personnel to operate together and meet the demands of modern service.
